I am providing this one star review because, while I am a firm supporter of Zotero (and open source and open science/academia models), this app has failed to improve basic, core functionality during the entire time I have used it from pre-launch betas to the current version. There’s a separate highlight annotation tool for highlighting. The ink annotation tool is for free-hand writing and drawing on the PDF, which is why it’s opaque. As bugs continued to be ironed out, this app will be indispensable. And with the number of bugs fixed recently, that is apparent. This would be useful for articles that come in two PDFs, text and examples.ĮDIT: The developers respond to comments and seem to genuinely want to improve the app. After a file has been made, you cannot add attachments. To exacerbate this issue, the checkpoints throughout can be needlessly harsh, and actually seem to get wider apart the further along you progress. Keeping track of all the action can be tough, and the game almost feels a bit unfair at times as a result. Mighty Goose isn’t the most resilient of protagonists, with a measly four chunks of health keeping him going at all times when you’re up against dozens of enemies coming from every direction, don’t be surprised if you get hit by a projectile you never even saw coming. This works even better with more powerful guns like the shotgun, and is incredibly satisfying to pull off when you encounter an enemy with a front-facing impenetrable shield.Īlthough the gameplay feels great for the most part, the action can often get a little too chaotic. These weapons have a finite amount of ammo, so you go right back to the hand cannon once you run out, but thankfully weapon pickups are incredibly frequent throughout the game.Īctual gunplay feels slick and responsive, and you can shoot either horizontally or vertically jumping and then shooting down actually lets you hover in the air for a short while, as the kickback from the guns keeps Mighty Goose airborne. Starting off with a standard hand cannon, Mighty Goose feels reasonably well equipped from the start, but it’s not long until you begin to pick up new weapons like shotguns, machine guns, and rocket launchers. With minimal plot to back up the chaotic gameplay, you’re tasked with simply going from level to level in a variety of locations to unleash destruction upon waves of enemies. Geese are really going from strength to strength, aren’t they? Tabitha’s call to action was for timber engineering businesses and manufacturers to engage with TDUK and to work proactively across and within sectors and disciplines to educate, interact and enable better building practices with timber. He said the industry needed to become more resilient to the effects these issues have had on the supply chain and be less dependent on labour through increased use of MMC and pre-manufactured value.Īddressing the need to upskill the industry and combat labour shortages, Professor Robert Hairstans, founding director of the Centre for Advanced Timber Technologies at NMITE, and Tabitha Binding head of education and engagement at Timber Development UK (TDUK) spoke about the new facilities being built at NMITE, the University Design Challenge, and the joint initiatives that are underway to bring together the different construction disciplines. I'm not sure what happened with Alec Baldwin though, since safety standards have improved since 1993. However, since there was a bullet lodged in the gun, the blank round was able to propel the bullet at lethal velocity. Alec Baldwin will be charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter after a cinematographer was accidentally killed during production of his film Rust. It consists of black powder and a primer, but it has no bullet. The blank is the opposite of a dummy round. UPDATE, 4:35 PM: Alec Baldwin’s defense team are wrong that the gun that killed Rust cinematographer Halyna Hutchins has been destroyed, says the Santa Fe District Attorney’s office. Later, the dummy rounds were replaced by blanks and the gun was used in the scene where Brandon Lee was shot and killed. When the gun was fired, the primer was enough to eject the bullet out of the shell and into the barrel of the gun - where it became lodged. Alec Baldwin will not be charged in connection with the shooting injury of ‘Rust’ director Joel Souza as there is no unintentional battery charge that would apply in the case. However, the special-effects crew forgot to remove the primer, which is also very important. The black powder was removed from these cartridges to make it safe, these are called dummy rounds or dummy cartridges. There was a scene where they needed to film the revolver with realistic cartridges being loaded into it. Alec Baldwin will not be charged for shooting the Rust director Joel Souza even though he was hit by the same bullet that killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. They understand that people are more willing to welcome assistance when they’re already engaged in a task or a project and have experienced its challenges firsthand.” Instead, they watch and listen until they believe that subordinates see the need for help and are ready to listen receptively. We’ve found, however, that the leaders who are viewed as the most helpful don’t try to preempt every problem or dive in as soon as they recognize one. “Conventional wisdom suggests that heading off potential issues is the best strategy (recall Benjamin Franklin’s famous adage “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure”). The first strategy is to time your assistance, so it comes when employees are ready for it. The researchers have uncovered three critical strategies for being a hands-on boss without being micromanaging. New research (over the past ten years) published by Colin M Fisher, Teresa M Amabile, and Julianna Pillemer in the Harvard Business Review reveals essential insights into how managers can better assist their employees. How can managers effectively help struggling team members without being perceived as micromanaging? For example, our research at InnovationOne has consistently shown that organizations that encourage organizational learning and individual learning are more innovative and financially successful. Extensive research shows that pervasive helping in organizations correlates with better performance and innovation than letting employees go it alone. They need assistance that is both well-timed and appropriate to their issues. People doing complex work often need more than just superficial advice and encouragement. So, where is the sweet spot between micromanaging and too hands-off? The sink and swim organizational cultures (“hit the goals or else” cultures) do not foster innovation. Managers should not be completely hands-off, either. I have long coached micro-managing managers whose teams want them to back off a bit and give them more room to breathe. Long-standing research shows that employees have adverse emotional and physiological reactions to unnecessary or unwanted help, which tends to erode interpersonal relationships. But too much of a good thing can also be detrimental. It has been the source of breakthrough books on leadership, such as the One-Minute Manager. Next, let’s look at the characteristics that are prevalent with our next two management styles: The under-prepared manager and the highly-demanding manager.Behaviorism has long taught us that immediate and direct feedback is critical to reinforce the behaviors and outcomes we want. Give yourself permission to think and act independently. How do I Succeed with a Hands-Off Manager? Makes statements like: “I do not need to follow up with my employees I trust them.”.Manages through a “natural” team leader without interfering in the daily running of the organization. You will recognize a “Hands-Off” management style when you see these characteristics: This leadership style is good for providing structure, so ask for direction/structure as needed.Micro-managers tend to pile on work, so keep them on task by renegotiating priorities.Find out what is really important to your manager and take the initiative to give him/her relevant information before being asked for it.You cannot change your boss instead, focus your energy in what pays off. While you have the option to quit, you can explore how to improve the situation.Lacks competence and creative capabilities necessary for the position (which is frequently the cause of why someone uses the micromanagement style).Tends to delegate, strategically, to get credit for positive results, while holding others responsible for any negative results.Monitors and assesses every procedural task. You will recognize a “Micro-Manager” style when you see these characteristics: Let’s look at the characteristics of each style. It’s important to take things in stride, and follow the advice below for career success when working with a manager who uses either of these styles. Micro-manager and hands-off leadership styles are at opposite ends of the spectrum, but there are valuable lessons that you can learn in each style. Technologies of humility encourage, firstly, reflection on the framing of risk, which can help avoid exclusion and hidden injustice, such as the consequences of delayed climate action for future generations. In dialogue with these early articulations of a responsible research and innovation agenda, Sheila Jasanoff outlined the need for ‘Technologies of Humility’ or ‘methods, or better yet institutionalized habits of thought, that try to come to grips with … the unknown, the uncertain, the ambiguous, and the uncontrollable’ : 227. This influence is visible even in positive policies, such as the US Inflation Reduction Act 2022. They are actively influencing policies and publics, as highlighted in the BBC documentary ‘Big Oil v the World’ (2022), where Exxon is shown to have suppressed its own research because it linked fossil fuel extraction with global warming. A major driver in this crisis is that proponents of neoliberal ideologies and vested interests in fossil fuel dependency exploit political inertia to sow doubt, rationalise delay, and provide placebo solutions. call it a ‘policy-making tragedy’ where policy-makers become trapped by short-term horizons even when the implications of doing so are catastrophic. For some, the gap between climate commitments and actions is the result of ‘organised hypocrisy’, while Levin et al. Dissensus and uncertainties affect many politicians’ willingness to commit to anything but ambitious goals.
